ROSH Sensor Integrated Headbands provide a visual indication of the strength and location of head impacts to help inform remove-from-play decisions by coaches and athletes. They can be used in all sports, and were designed to be inexpensive enough for all levels of school, community, home, and professional athletics.
The MTBIsense team is Professors Marcos Dantus and Gary Blanchard, with over 25 years experience in measurement sciences, and our partners. When the National Football League asked in 2013 for improved technologies to quantify head impact in real time we realized that the greatest number of people affected by brain injuries are actually the millions of children playing sports in school and in clubs with very limited resources. So we pursued an approach that would be easy to use, easy to understand, and affordable. The result is ROSH Sensor Integrated Headbands.

What It Is? And How It Works.
1. ROSH Sensor strips incorporate dye-filled microcapsules that burst in specific impact patterns based in impact force and direction.
2. Patterns are calibrated to determine if thresholds related to the incidence of concussion in athletes are exceeded, and can be understood intuitively by non-experts -- circles for 30g impacts and above, and stars for 80g impacts and above.
3. ROSH sensors do not provide a diagnosis of brain injury. Rather, they provide objective information that coaches, trainers and parents can use to determine if a player needs to be removed from play and be examined by a physician.
4. Sensors are inexpensive enough to be used at all levels of school, community, home, and professional athletics, and provide a permanent record of the impact that can inform clinical evaluation by a physician.
